5 Myths About Hair Transplant

Myth #1

When you wash your hair you promote hair loss

Fact: It can be troubling standing in the shower and watching those lovely locks make their way towards your shower drain, however, you need to remember that everyone loses approximately 100 hairs each day.  These hair follicles will be replaced when new hairs enter the growth phase.  Unless hair begins to fall out in large clumps there is usually nothing to worry about and the shedding you are experiencing is probably very normal.   Studies have shown that daily washing actually produces less overall hair loss than someone who shampoos only once every 5-7 days.  Researchers believe that removing the dirt, oil, and excess testosterone on the scalp helps limit hair loss.

Myth #2

Only men suffer from hair loss

Fact: Approximately 50 million men and 30 million women suffer from male pattern and female pattern baldness or thinning hair.  In fact almost 80% of women will have some level of noticeable hair loss by the age of 60.   There are many causes for women’s hair loss including hormonal causes, female pattern loss, birth control, stress, and rapid weight loss to name a few.  The social stigma associated with female hair loss can be devastating and at Renew Facial Plastic Surgery we realize the emotional pain associated with losing your hair. The NeoGraft procedure is an an ideal solution to treating female hair loss and helping your restore your hairline and confidence.

Myth #3

Only older people start losing their hair

Fact: Baldness knows no age, gender, or racial predilection.  For some people thinning hair starts in their teenage years and it is quite common to begin in the 2nd and 3rd decade of life.  The one thing that seems to be clear is that the earlier a person starts to lose their hair the more severe their hair loss tends to be.   The early recognition of hair loss and proper treatment during the early stages are critical to stabilizing the hair loss later in life.

Myth #4

Wearing a hat causes you to lose your hair

Fact:  There has been no research to show that hat use speeds up or alters hair loss. On the other hand, excessive sun exposure has been shown to be harmful to hair follicles and the use of hats may protect against the suns harmful effects to the hair follicles.

Myth #5

Baldness has no cure

Fact: While both male and female hair loss can be challenging to treat, Dr. Wudel and the team at Renew Facial Plastic Surgery can create an individual treatment plan utilizing the latest FDA approved medical therapy, laser treatments, and FUE surgical hair transplantation techniques to restore your hair and your confidence.
